Worksheet Documents
Worksheet Documents are non-formatted or barely-formatted files that can serve two purposes (and maybe more):
- They can work with the Exposable Guts pattern to reveal background information about the site itself. For example, the worksheet for the HTML Pattern Language has descriptions of patterns that have crossed my mind, but that I don't have a lot to say about yet; it might later contain patterns that other people are thinking about. The worksheet for this site contains brief descriptions of what I want do here later on.
- They can provide quick formatting of not-quite-ready documents. I didn't know how useful this pattern would be until about 2 am the morning before I opened this site. There were still a few documents that needed to be prepared; I didn't want to open the site without them, so I made them Worksheet Documents. In this context, they're not as effective as fully navigable documents, but it's better than having nothing at all, and they still provide basic navigation.
(This may wind up being two different patterns, Worksheet Documents and Stand-In Documents...)
Worksheet Documents (in the first context above) are always linked from the Reference Section at this site. They always provide simple navigation through the Readable Indices.
